Croydon shooting Trevor Ellis shot dead Duppas Hill Road death Brixton Hill South London riots

Following the Croydon shooting and murder of Trevor Ellis who was shot dead in Duppas Hill Road and whose death has led to arrests in Brixton Hill, South London, after the riots that rocked the capital London.

In what was the first known death of the Riots, police have been working round the clock to identify and arrest those responsible for the murder of Trevor Ellis, who suffered a fatal shot to the head in Croydon during the riots.

The two men who have now been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Trevor Ellis have not been named.

The 26 year old who was a father of four children, was savagely murdered after a car chase, and became the riots first fatality, though sadly not the last casualty. By the end of the London and England riots at least 5 people had been murdered, and further deaths may still occur as a direct result of the riots.

Mr Ellis had suffered the gunshot wound to the head in Croydon, south London, on Monday night 08/08/2011. He died the next day from his injuries.

Scotland Yard have confirmed that one of the suspected killers, a 26 year old man, has been arrested in Mitcham, south London yesterday. Police were supported by armed officers from CO19, and the man remains in custody at a south London police station, where he is being questioned.

A 24 year old was also arrested in Brighton, and he has been bailed to return on 12 September, pending further police inquiries.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson has said that initial inquiries have suggested Mr Ellis, of Brixton Hill, south London, had travelled to Croydon with friends to loot.

At some point the group Mr Ellis was with had become involved in an altercation with a group of approximately nine individuals, and it is thought that words were exchanged, and possibly some minor violence.

The altercation then culminated in a high speed vehicle pursuit which involved three vehicles which passed into Duppas Hill Road, Croydon, where the victim was shot, receiving a serious head injury, which proved fatal.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the pursuit which involved a dark estate car, a silver hatchback and a dark hatchback, in which Mr Ellis was one of the passengers.

It should be made clear that at this time the full details of the case are not known, and exactly what happened may not be known by police for some time, while it is being investigated.

Shootings on members of the general public are rare in London, although not unheard of. Knife and Violent crime is a definite problem, and David Cameron has recently accepted that there is a serious Gang Problem in the capital, and infact around the UK.

Because of all the violence, killings, rioting and general disorder David Cameron has appointed Bill Bratton, a tough U.S supercop to advise him on controlling crime in the UK. THe streets of the UK have now calmed a great deal over the past couple of days, and the worst of the mayhem appear to be behind us.
