08/08/2011 - In Birmingham the riots from London have spread, The Adidas Shop, Jd sports, Footlocker, Primark were all damaged or looted. The Birmingham rioting in B1 and surrounding areas in the West Midlands has come as a surprise, and there is a fear that rioting will spread to other areas such as Bristol. The second shooting of the riots has been reported in Croydon, London. A man was shot dead in a car in a Croydon shooting.

Rioting erupted in Birmingham, with shop windows being smashed and stores being looted Police struggled to contain the mayhem and they described the criminals as mindless thugs.
The police station in Handsworth, which is nearly three miles out of the city centre, was set on fire, this was confirmed by the Police. Teams from across the West Midlands were scrambled to Handsworth and the centre of the city.
Many shops were damaged including a city centre McDonald’s restaurant and also the Armani store at the Mailbox shopping centre, where criminals gained access and looted many high value items.
Police have confirmed that over 100 people have been arrested, many of them juveniles, who should of been at home with mum and dad.
At least eleven people have been taken to a number of hospitals in the city, one Hospital reported a fight between two gangs, which resulted in the stabbing of two men.
The disturbances had initially started during the early evening, though this died down for a while and it appeared trouble had been averted.

Later in the evening of 8th August 2011, at around 23:45 hrs, West Midlands Police confirmed that the police station in Holyhead Road was on fire, and that there were hundreds of youths and rioters in the area.
Police have been monitoring Twitter for intelligence on planned attacks.
The West Midlands Police force also reported that some of its cars had come under attack on Holyhead Road, and a large number of vehicles, both police and civilian had been set alight.

The Ambulance service have confirmed that they have been called to 24 incidents, mainly treating people who had been assaulted by the gangs. The violence in Birmingham appears to be worse that London, with gangs openly targeting innocents.
Injuries received include cuts, stabs, bruises to the head and body and a dislocated knee. There were some reports of gunfire and car thefts and hijackings.

Police have now urged parents to contact their children and get them to return home, as there are many youths on the streets, and mixed with alcohol which has been looted the situation turned very nasty, with widespread criminal activity around Birmingham.

West Midlands Police also confirm that four people have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, another four for violent disorder and just one for a breach of the peace.
The Pandora jewellers shop in Birmingham city centre was attacked last night, and many thousands of pounds of gold silver and precious items were taken.
The West Midlands Police Assistant Chief Constable Sharon Rowe has said that she still has a significant number of officers in Birmingham city centre, and that preparations are being made for another night of violence on the 09/08/2011.
There are still outbreaks of violence at 10:00 hrs on the 9th August, and looting of shops is still taking place, though this is mainly individuals chancing their luck.
Ms Rowe said officers have been working with the council and emergency services to formalise a policing operation, and a plan for the coming days. A no tolerance attitude is expected to be approved and implemented.
Police officers are now controlling access on some of the routes into Birmingham to avoid outside influences who appear to be travelling to the city today 09/08/2011.
A heavy police presence had been seen in the city from late yesterday afternoon and some shops in the city centre had closed early yesterday amid rumours that trouble may break out, some boards went up over windows. Police had the intelligence and made preparations for the potential trouble.
A reporter Grant Sherlock had said that the window of Mills City Express store, in Colmore Row, had been smashed by youths wielding a bin. And that he was threatened at one point by hooded rioters and forced to hand over valuables.
Motorcycles and cars were vandalised and burned, and some members of the public engaged in fighting with masked men, in self defence. People fled, their lives in danger. Some people were just watching in disbelief.
Vans of police in riot gear were evident over central Birmingham and they engaged looters and rioters.
Jessops store in Temple Row was broken into and valuable cameras and electrical equipment were taken from inside.
In New Street the front window of the Adidas store was smashed and many empty coat hangers littered the street outside.

Chris Scrivens, a witness has said that youths have been running amok in the grounds around the cathedral. Drinking shouting and exchanging loot.

Police have asked people to think twice before calling emergency services with non-urgent calls due to the high demand for services at this time.

A Councillor Paul Tilsley who is the deputy leader of the city council has confirmed that the authority would be making every effort as possible from first light on Tuesday 09/08/2011 to clear up any damage and police would bring normality back to the city.

Just to add my input I am a young black female from birmingham and I do know some people who have been involved and it is not because they are mindless thugs or uneducated and dumb and no it does not directly have anything to do with the death of mark duggen but the death was the spark that lead to the events. Some of the police force are corrupt and are pigs, I know of an old black man that was beaten to death my police, my boyfriends cousin was beaten by police and left for dead and I know of several other cases of innocent black people treated badly by police. As white people or asians you may think that black people are lying or exaggerating or making excuses but it is real. We are discriminated against and abused by the police. Yes it is true black youths do not make situations better for themselves as they continue to give themselves a bad reputation but they are sick of being discriminated against by police, innocent people being killed and beaten by police whether mark duggen had a weapon or not this is not the first case of this kind, and this is why this was an event waiting to happen the youths are rebelling making a statement, I believe they have not thought of the wider concequences and they will regret it if they had sense they would have left the communities alone not burnt cars and buildings or broke into shops. sounds like most of the city centre will be closed from 4pm. I’ve just had a call from work letting me know that we have been told to stay home and out of the city and to keep safe. I just cant belive that this is happening in a ‘civilised’ society. I do really feel that the youth of today, regardless of race, colour, or creed should be given something positive to do with their time, something that will give them some self respect…..maybe a few weeks in Africa rather than a few weeks in a detention centre would give a little more life experince and they can see for themselves what true poverty is and how difficult life can really be. There was an old saying that our school teachers used to say…the devil makes work for idol hands…how true. I agree with a great deal of what youthwhounderstand has to say. The police are heavy handed and a licensed bunch of thugs that think their uniform gives them a right to harass and bully innocent people. This was sparked by the hitting of an innocent 16 year old girl at the protest ref. the killing of Mark Duggan. People have had enough of mindless police behaviour and brutality and I have seen and heard it all. I once thought like most of the public that the police were there to protect you, but how wrong I was. I know from first hand experience that they can be bribed, are bullies and mindless thugs themselves, and hopefully the rioters will see that it is them they should be targetting and not anyone’s business/home/car. I am a middle aged white woman by the way and a home owner and indiginous to the UK, but I am SICK SICK SICK of the corruption going on in this country and SICK of the police and their disgusting behaviour. People want answers and they want JUSTICE.
I hate to say it, but maybe the police have been too hard on many people, especially the youth, and along with lack of opportunities, and silly excuses, riots have ensued. If I were you I’d check your history books – Black people as insignificant as you may think they are play a key role in the rise of the British Empire – if we never existed neither would you. Prejudicism has just kept you in the dark and its sad! Love it or Hate it I couldn’t give a damn, some of you are not representative of your white counterparts who are actually good people! Regarding all this rioting – its a rotten bunch of people in society with no fear or respect for the law. How they got that way…I blame the parents!
Black people have done much for the Empire, and have proud heritage and should be respected by all.
As far as I am concerned Black people have as much right to be British as much as anyone else, at the same time it is only right that their culture is respected, and people should not be victimised for the colour of their skin.
I am so happy to see the love between black and white people in Bristol, the different cultures foods and people in Bristol is what makes it so great.
People may not like my opinion, but my opinion is that the police acted to fast if they would have talked softly and tried to calm the man down they wouldnt have had to shoot him it was the police that started it. England had an Empire, that fell, but we have a right to pursue interests worldwide, if it is in the interest of our people. The world is not a safe place. Some things have been wrong, though 99% of Brits know how, and have the will to make things better.
Criminals should not be murdered, though at the same time criminals need to know that if they carry a gun they risk death.No one should carry guns or knives as the law stands. The cops are not bad, there are bad ones, but overall I would rather have the Police than not. They do good work.
The yotuh are easily controlled, or should be, its the real criminals that are a very persistant danger, not the youth, who have been stupid, but will learn now the Police are rounding them up.

The riots in Birmingham were mad, it was probably my highlight of 2011, though I know it was wrong, at the time, it seemed right, there is allot of poverty and lack of hope amongst the young throughout the UK. The people were rebelling against those who control us, and the corrupt way society works. Of course many also were just looting nice things.
